Keep Your Cool: 3 Reasons to Service Your Air Conditioner Right Away

Posted on

Summer is just a few months away. If you've noticed a recent warming trend, now's the time to service your air conditioner. Servicing your air conditioner before you use it each summer will help to avoid break-downs. If you're not sure that your air conditioner needs to be serviced, read the information that's provided below. You'll find three important reasons to service your air conditioner right away.

Your Home Has Been Vacant

If your home has been sitting vacant for a couple of years, don't use your air conditioner until you've had the system serviced. While your home was sitting vacant, so was your air conditioner. That means it's had time to collect dirt, dust, and even a few pests. If you try to use your air conditioner before you have it serviced, you could be setting yourself up for some serious problems. Dirt and dust could have clogged your vents, AC compressor, and other components, which could reduce the amount of air that flows through your vents. Not only that, but the extra work could cause your AC compressor to burn out. In addition, pests could have damaged the wiring, which can pose additional risks for your AC. To avoid those problems, it's best to have your air conditioner serviced after an extended period of non-use.

You've Experienced a Dust Storm

If you've recently endured a significant dust storm, it's a good idea to have your air conditioner serviced as soon as possible. You might know to inspect your home for signs of damage after a major dust storm. However, you might not know that the inspection should expand to include your air conditioner. Dust storms can cause serious damage to your air conditioner. First, dust can get embedded in the air conditioner coils. Second, dust can clog the fan motor. Unfortunately, both problems can lead to overheating, which can destroy your air conditioner. After a dust storm, be sure to have your air conditioner serviced. That way, the dust can be properly removed from the exterior air conditioner unit.

You've Noticed Changes in Cooling

If you were noticing changes in the way your air conditioner cooled your home last year, but you postponed repairs, don't postpone any longer. Those changes that you noticed last summer might be caused by internal problems with your air conditioner. For instance, the fan motor or compressor might be about to fail. Before you're caught unprepared for the hot weather ahead, have your air conditioner serviced. With early servicing, last year's problems won't plague you for another summer.
