Pay Attention To Air Conditioning Issues That Mean A Repair Is Necessary

Posted on

Your air conditioner can work all summer without any problems and then suddenly it won't cool down your home. If you didn't get your system serviced at the start of the cooling season, your air conditioner may just need the refrigerant levels topped off and the air filter changed. When you get your system serviced before you need to use it everyday, it is less likely to have issues during periods of heavy use. When you notice that your home isn't getting cool, or you hear your system turning on and off frequently, it's time to contact an air conditioning repair service to see what is going on.

Low Refrigerant Levels and Short Cycling

If the refrigerant levels are low in your air conditioning system, this can cause your system to short cycle. This means your system will turn on and off without cooling down your home. The short cycling occurs because your system is getting too hot as it tries to cool down your home without adequate refrigerant. Once the refrigerant is filled back up, the problem should go away.

Ice Buildup On the Condenser Coils

The blower on your air conditioner keeps the condenser coils from building up moisture. If the blower isn't working properly, you can have ice begin to buildup on your coils. Low refrigerant levels can also cause ice to form on your condenser coils. Try turning off your air conditioner and let the ice melt. This could solve your issue, or the ice may begin to build again. Contact an air conditioning repair service if ice keeps forming, as your air conditioner won't be able to run efficiently.

Temperature Problems In the Home

You may notice that your system is only blowing warm air. Make sure that the air conditioner isn't set to fan or heat accidentally. If the air is warm, this can also be a problem with your thermostat. Refrigerant levels are always suspected when the air cant get cool enough. If the system shuts off before your home is cool, this could mean the air filters need to be changed. Clogged filters make your system run too hard to cool down your home.

When you hear strange noises, or your system keeps turning on and off, it's time to investigate further. An air conditioning repair service can look over your system and make any necessary repairs to get your home cool once again.
